Sally and I first acquired a rescue beagle, Prudence, in the mid 70s. We
soon bought a puppy and became interested in drag hunting only later to
become involved with the showing side when we bought a puppy from Honor
Eades. We bought our foundation bitch from Veronica Bradley and since then
although we have bred only occasionally, we have been delighted to get most
of our show dogs qualified for the Stud Book and our greatest success in the
show ring to date has of course been with Briar.
I have always enjoyed serving on the committee
of the Beagle Club and currently have the honour of being the Vice Chairman.
I became a member of the Kennel Club in 2006 and award CCs in our
wonderful breed. |
|
I first became involved in
Beagles in the early eighties although my wife Jane and I had showed
Airedale Terriers before that and have both been involved with dogs all our
lives. We have bred one Beagle who has gained his title - Champion Janimist
Black Mulberry. I have judged the breed since 1991, and awarded CC's for the
first time in 2007 at Southern Counties.
I joined the BC committee in 1995 and have been Treasurer since 1999. I
was the Working Section Field Master for 3 years and have a strong interest
in the hunting beagle. I am also a committee member of the Hound Association
and organise their annual parade of working hound packs at Houndshow.
In 2005 I was elected a member of the Kennel Club.

I got my first beagle in 1983 and began showing in
1984.
I made up my first Champion Forester of Nictoney
(better known as Woody) in 1993, In 1994 I had my lovely 'H' litter which
contained my next two Champions Hoodwink and Hoyden, their brother Hoodlum
was exported to New Zealand where he became a champion and sired many Ch's
both in NZ and Australia. My latest Champion was a Hoyden daughter Ch
Nictoney Symphony (2005).
I am a Championship show judge of beagles. I joined the
Beagle Club Committee in 1993 and was Editor of the magazine for 10years,
nowadays I can usually be found on the gate at BC shows or behind the BBQ at
the annual event.

I was born
in Shropshire, educated at Adams Grammar School, Wem. After managing
several wine stores, I changed careers taking a great risk by setting up a
Boarding Kennel in North Staffordshire. The summer months were great
working outside with plenty of money coming in to extend the 8 kennels I
started with. As anyone who has run boarding kennels knows winter arrives
and times get hard. I was not for giving up, nothing comes easy in life and
after 30 years we have a kennel housing 62 boarders and our own show team of
Beagles.
In the early
years I had a great mentor in Mary Hambleton of the world famous Marbelton
Boxers, she taught me so much about handling and kennel husbandry, you could
eat your lunch from her kennel floors and I have tried to emulate her in
every way. I made up my first Champion in 1988.
I have bred Champions in three different breeds in three
different groups, Working, Utility and Hound. I awarded CC’s for the first
time in 1996.
I served on the committee of Manchester Championship Show in
the early ‘90s, leaving due to the ill health of a family member.
I have owned Beagles since 2004, made up a home bred Champion
in 2009. I am an accredited breeder having all accolades. |

I was
introduced into the breed by rescuing a cute puppy who taught us the joys of
owning a beagle the hard way.
After
losing her at the age 13 ½ we were hooked on the breed, and our mission
began to find another puppy.
We were
lucky in our choice by buying one from the famous Jesson Kennel, who became
our foundation bitch Jesson Dally.
We
obtained our Affix of ‘Donay’ and the breeding began.
Jesson
Dally went on to produce our first champion Donay Kappa and his litter
sister Donay Delta then produced our second champion Donay Zeus.
Both our
champions are used at stud and are producing quality Puppies, 2 of which we
are now exhibiting from Kappa.
I enjoy
my hobby very much and my roll within the Beagle Club.

My first beagle came in 1979 as companion for a border collie and I have
lived with beagles ever since. I mated her in 1983 and showed until 1990
when I met my husband and acquired 3 young step-children.
In 1996 Andrew
and I bought a daughter of CH Julemark Hotspur and resumed breeding and
showing. We now have five beagle bitches (two bearing our affix) and three
home-bred boys. We show during the summer but, as secretary of the Working
Section, the winter is largely taken up with drag hunting.
I have served on
the Club Committee since 2002.
When not on the
end of a beagle lead, I work as an accountant at the Royal Agricultural
College, the venue for the Club’s championship show.

My first beagle arrived in 1980 when my parents decided
we needed to get a dog. I however didn’t want a dog, I was terrified of
them! My first memory is hiding behind dad on the settee from Candy, our 8
week old puppy.
However, Candy (Beacott Ballad) changed my life and in
1982 Beacott Bonnylad joined us. By this time we had discovered the
dog-showing bug! I had a relatively successful career in Junior Handling
winning The Bucky Trophy for Best Beagle Junior Handler of The Year in 1983.
Our third beagle, Bondlea Poacher, joined us from Marion
Hunt in 1988 and I campaigned him to 1CC , 2RCC’s and numerous Best Veteran
awards.
For my 18th birthday, Marion gave me half
shares in Becky and our showing partnership began. Becky went on to become
CH & IR CH Valsacre Tactful of Bondlea. I was proud to handle Becky to my
greatest achievement so far – BOB at Crufts in 1995.
In 2001 Marion & I imported Mingus Keyboard from
Australia. PK was the first dog to be shown under our joint affix, Shercroft.
PK’s daughter Lottie (Valsacre Concerto At Shercroft), arrived in 2003 and
from Lottie’s litter we kept Shercroft Portrait (Penny) who has just started
her show career.
Under my own affix ‘Sirron’ I have shown Moondancer of
Sirron, Sirron Spokesman and Sirron Solong. I judge at all levels and was
passed to award CC’s in 2006.
I am currently Assistant Secretary of the Beagle club,
having joined the committee in 1993.

I, together with my husband
Cliff had our first Beagle in 1990 and soon became interested in showing.
Having studied the breed closely we realised our original hound’s
shortcomings and sought to obtain a well-bred, good looking foundation bitch
which we found at Dufosee.
We began showing our first
home bred stock in 1995 and won our first CC in 2002 with Emorlen Crackle
who was to become our first Champion. He also went on to win Welsh Show Dog
of the Year. We have produced several overseas Champions and one of our
hounds, Emorlen Darius, has excelled in both field and show ring in Sweden
where he is a multiple group winner.
I serve on various general
canine societies as an officer and committee member and I am now progressing
through the A3 judging scheme.

My first dog was 29 years ago, not a
Beagle but he taught me a lot. I started 3 Day Eventing with my horse from 9
years of age, and looked after their 5 dogs which lived and worked on the
Stud Farm.
Since having to retire from
Eventing, I rescued a Chihuahua 7 years ago, then rescuing another years
later, these were never intended for competition, However, my 2 Beagles are
fulfilling my life wonderfully and I thoroughly enjoy exhibiting both of
them. Although I have less experience in this breed, I have the passion and
desire to learn. It’s quite incredible what one can learn when you give
100%. As a committee member of the Beagle Club, I will become a life long
ambassador of this wonderful breed.
I hope I can
bring a reliable, loyal, long service. For my day job, I have worked
selling IT & Telecoms for 12 years, currently at Orange selling mobile &
data solutions to large financial enterprises. I maintain my own website
which is nearly completed |

A Pharmacist by profession, my husband and I own
two beagles, I was encouraged into showing, and the enjoyment was evident
from the outset. We were of course
delighted when our first show dog won his maiden CC at Bournemouth 2007.
My holistic interest in the breed has been
demonstrated by my attendance at the Topical Canine health seminar last
September and a spell on Discover Dogs stand with my bitch at Crufts 2007.
I was fortunate enough to act as a volunteer
handler at the Beagle Club training seminar last November. |

We have had beagles in our family for
the last 40 years, but I have only been showing for the last 7 years.
I started with Machavos Pick-a-Lily
bred by the McSheehy's and later on we had a litter of puppies, two of which
we kept, ( Kentoast Napoleon and Filbert ), who have been more successful.
When we are not showing in the winter,
we can be found with the working section in all weathers. K. Napoleon,
better known as Buster, has proved himself by attaining 2 Working
Certificates in the 3 seasons he has been out. |

Like most people, my first two
beagles were bought as pets in 2002. We attended obedience and agility
classes with some success.
I became interested in showing
Beagles in 2004 and attended the local Open Shows, where I met some lovely
friends who showed me the ropes. I acquired my first show girl in 2005. Our
first show out we gained a 2nd at Crufts and were highly placed at all the
shows we attended.
My first litter arrived in
2007, my puppy qualified for Crufts at his first show out.
I currently serve on the local
canine society, where I help organise two shows and several Kennel Club
Seminars a year. I have also volunteered at Manchester Champ Show for the
past few years, and I enjoy helping out at the Beagle Club shows. |
